Conservation has real enemies: preventable habitat loss, degraded water cycles, eroding soil, collapsing biological function, and management systems that continue after their assumptions have failed. A species should be controlled when the evidence shows that control is necessary and the proposed action is likely to improve the system. It should not be condemned because a familiar label makes scrutiny unnecessary.
