Good job, snow.

This week the snowpack in Jackson and on top of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort broke records.

Mountain Weather meteorologist Jim Woodmencey said that, at 24 inches Wednesday morning, the snow in town was the deepest it’s ever been on April 5 — and any time later in the month.

The previous record was set in 2008, when the town climate station recorded 18 inches of snow.

A few miles northwest, and a few thousand feet higher, the Rendezvous Bowl study plot on top of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort reported Wednesday that it had received 590 inches for the season, which started Oct 1.

The plot’s previous record was set in the winter of 1996-97, when the bowl recorded 585 inches of snow from Oct. 1 through April 9.

“That’s really significant because that was sort of our benchmark year,” Woodmencey said.

But the meteorologist isn’t calling whether the Rendezvous Bowl plot will top 600 inches before Jackson Hole Mountain Resort closes. With only four days left to go until lifts stop spinning Sunday, there’s not much snow in the forecast.

“We stand a chance,” Woodmencey said, “but I don’t think we’ll get another 10 inches.”
