Wyoming Rancher Uses Extreme Weather To Redefine Cattle Genetics, Grow Super Cows

Johan Zeitsman the Rhodesian rancher and range consultant, who then went to South Africa, and I guess has now been run out of old British Africa altogether, always said that the best bulls for any herd are those that are raised on the range occupied by the herd.

In other words, hold back your own bulls. don’t make the mistake that most people do which is to buy high dollar show bulls. He also advocated smaller cattle, which come to full-size quicker than the great big ones. You run more cattle in head count, they mature more quickly and so you are getting more beef per acre and more profit per acre. So it’s pounds per acre not pounds per animal. It all goes back to genetics based on which animals thrive.

And that’s it - as always thank you..
